Em Baker is a writer/director from Melbourne. Em's debut feature documentary I AM NO BIRD had its world premiere at Sydney Film Festival, where it was nominated for Best Australian Documentary, and had a theatrical release with Potential Films. Em is currently in development on VAG OF HONOUR, a Screen Australia-supported webseries with co-creator Melanie Killingsworth, THE VINYL RECORDS: DESTROY PHALLUS OPPRESSION, a Screen Australia-supported feature documentary with co-director Juhi Sharma and Film Camp (winner of the Dok Leipzig Prize at AIDC 2020), and a television series with co-creator Karl Fernando and Aquarius Films. Em’s short film DOLPHIN was an official selection of the 2020 Queerscreen Mardi Gras Film Festival, Melbourne Women in Film Festival and Setting Sun Film Festival. Em was a participant in Cinespace's Diversity Writer's Lab with Jane Allen. Em’s directorial debut, SPOKE won the Audience Choice Award at the Melbourne Documentary Film Festival. Em has also crewed on films for the last eight years in a variety of roles, including VFX on BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD and MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, and as a production/ editing assistant on documentaries INEQUALITY FOR ALL and THE LAST SEASON. Em was a 2019 ATOM Awards judge, and in her spare time she enjoys podcasts and sewing clothes of dubious structural integrity.
